Today’s writer/gardener guest is Kimberly Rose Johnson. who will be sharing a secret with us. Welcome, Kimberly!
I have a secret. My gardening skills are lacking. Well, maybe it’s not so secret now since I shared a pic on Instagram of what I thought were amazing zucchini plants. According to experts they weren’t lol.
Zucchini?
I may not be a great gardener, but 2020 has proven to be a great year for my garden. My dismal backyard turned into a thing of beauty this year. It didn’t happen by itself. It took some weeding, grooming, water, fresh organic soil, fresh bark, and the right weather conditions, but for the first time in years, I’ve have a pretty backyard.
Backyard
We made raised beds out of cinderblocks and pavers that were just sitting on the side of the house. We grew lettuce, radishes, and zucchini in the beds. I actually had a salad from my own garden! I realize this isn’t a big deal, but for me it is. We also have cherry tomatoes, and earlier in the season we had some delicious raspberries and blueberries.
I am hooked on trying to grow edibles. As much as I love growing food, I love my flowers even more. Through the years I’ve accumulated a decent number of pots. This year I decided to do something with them and planted wave petunias, coleus, a spikey plant, and something that spilled over the front of the pots. I’m not super great with their names. HANGING BASKET ⇒
The place I once avoided, turned into one of my favorite hangouts this past spring and summer.

I already miss summer even though fall is my favorite season. My zucchini plants produced a delicious crop. I wish there had been more!
Thanks for having me on your blog today.
Ah ha! So they were zucchini plants! I thought so. I wonder why the ‘experts’ on instagram thought not. Thanks for coming on the blog and sharing your garden.
Sorry, I probably wasn’t clear in my wording. They didn’t think they extraordinary lol. They just looked like regular ole zucchini plants. I thought they were amazing and huge. 🙂
Hey, anything that grows and grows well is extraordinary, in my opinion. 🙂
Yes! I like that.:)
I LOVE that hanging basket. It looks like it’s hanging from a tree! I wish you the best with your writing. I have an 11-year-old granddaughter and you say your books are safe for ages 10 and up. Can you recommend one?
It is hanging from a tree. It was so heavy a shepherd’s hook wouldn’t work.
Regarding your granddaughter I have a fun mystery series called The Librarian Sleuth. There are some younger characters in the series that other young girls have enjoyed. 🙂 I think if it was my granddaughter I’d say the Sleuth series.
My Sunriver Dreams series also has a young characters sprinkled throughout the series.
Almost all my books are in Kindle Unlimited too if that is helpful.
Thanks for your fun post! Your yard looks lush and lovely. :0}
Thanks, June!
Your garden is lovely, and it sounds as though you have a brave, interesting Alpha hero in Frank.
Thank you, Gail. Frank is definitely an Alpha hero. 🙂
Kimberly Rose Johnson writes wonderful stories. I have read Certain Threat and it’s amazing. 🙂
